Critical Range

This is the amount needed when rolling a d20 to score a critical success or failure. Normally, a 20 or 1 results in a critical success or failure. If, for example, a critical success range was increased by 1, then a 19 or 20 rolled on the die would result in a critical success.

If a victim’s critical success range is lowered beyond the normal minimum needed for a critical (20), then the victim is treated as having a disadvantage to that roll if they roll a natural 20. If a target’s critical failure rate is lowered beyond its minimum (1), then the target is treated as having an advantage for that roll, if they roll a natural 1. If on the second roll, they roll the same critical again, it counts.

If increased critical ranges overlap into each other, they cancel out, becoming normal non-critical results.
